Osteria dell'Angolo - Authentic Italian Dining with Seafood & Pasta in Central London

Had a lovely meal here before a concert at St John's Smith Square. Arrived in poor weather a little before opening time, but they let us in, and were attentive to our timing needs. Delicious pasta - perfectly cooked pasta and flavoursome sauce. Reminded me of a dish I'd had in a little trattoria in Siena. I had a cheesecake dessert too - yum. Given the location and posh ambience I thought the prices were very reasonable. But a friend was paying anyway (thank you!)

The service is very good and the location quite central. Price in line with similar restaurants. However, I was surprised by the pasta which was a bit bland. It was well cooked and I'm sure the ingredients were of top quality but it lacked taste and it was not "mantecata" (creamed) as it should be. Chickpea soup on the contrary was very savoury with the red onion giving a strong punch.

My wife and I arrived in London tired, but thrilled to be here. We checked into a nearby hotel with the goal of dining at a place without a short walk. The receptionist suggested this place or another Italian restaurant. We opted for this one based on the atmosphere. We could not have been more pleased. We started with the scallops to share as an appetizer. It came with five scallops which was a perfect amount for us. For the mains, we stuck with seafood and ordered the cod dish and the halibut dish. The halibut was pan-fried with aubergines and "crashed" potatoes. The cod was wrapped in Tuscan ham and served with spinach. This amazing meal was accompanied with a bottle of Noce Chardonnay. For dessert, we opted for two glasses of Prosecco and shared the Tortino Caprese. Not only was the meal amazing, I also have to compliment the outstanding service by Numan. If this rest of our dinners in London are this good, then I will be impressed. Thank you, Numan, for a perfect evening!
